Over the past few weeks I have done exactly so, sometimes finding it grueling and other times thoroughly enjoying it. Now my project is at the best stage. The part where I finally get to make things, experiment and at long last create it.
Over the passed week I have planned out a few experiments to carry out, I have competed almost all of them. I have been playing with wire to see how I can construct the inside part of my fruit.
Above I have used one of my shapes of fruit to play about with.
I have also explored various mediums for creating my skin textures, using candle wax, tin foil, clingfilm,
string fibers, mod rock and clay. By using different methods in applying these mediums I have been able to explore a multitude of textures that I am able to create.
Casting mod rock round my balloon was fun, I then went on to add another balloon on top of that cast which, once dry I carefully cut in half. Taking on the shape of an extra large pear. I have managed to create an organic looking shape for my fruit with use of balloons. Although this look promising, it is not a strong piece. I need to find a way to strengthen my outer shell, if I decide to go with this choice.
I have cut this in half so that if it becomes my fruit it can be opened up to reveal its inner workings.
I have ideas of using foam and wire for then vain's and flesh.....
I would like to use plaster of Paris to strengthen the outer shell of my fruit.
If I go ahead with this my piece may end up being very heavy which could be problematic.
