Painting with the little one....
Today Niobe and I sat down to paint with water colours. First piece of paper we mucked about painting flowers an shapes etc. Then on the next sheet we started to do splatter painting. I was showing her a few ways of applying the paint. She picked it up very well, we painted what looked like a nebula in space.....

Random Rant........
Draw what’s in your heart not what you see, vision is only a catalyst to what may inspire you to create.
Take in everything around you good or bad, regurgitate it through your mind and let it out in everyway you possible can. Communicate the realm of the subconscious as much as possible.
To me that is the way to stay sane in the world we live in.......
We are constantly influenced right left and centre to be something we are not, why is this? Are we being diverted from our true self’s? Why should we rely on objects to get by? Who are we when we leave this place we call home? We are a soul that carries on without our body.
Draw, Create, Manifest......
Look inside yourself and see the real pathway to peace happiness.
Wake up, look at the sky what the sunrise, don’t worry about linear time, there is all the time in the world......
How many people get up and have time to take in the world, the sky the birds, animals landscape??
The clock tics we have every second taking up with earning something that doesn't exist....
Money is just paper that controls society! It represents the gold we do not have or owe to other countries. Why fight over something that does not exist?
Money is the route of All evil......

We all rely on shops, banks, supermarkets etc. What happened to real life? Hunter gatherer, living off the land. LIVING LIFE NOT A LIFESTYLE?
We are conditioned from our true nature of life.

PLP
BA Art and Design Pathways Project Plan
Shevan Wells-Jansz Year 1
Pathways BAD 16
These will include, drawing, painting, Sculpture and mixed media. Painting and Mixed media being my being my area of most interest.
I will be looking at the styles and Applications of painting, print making, life drawing, paper making, textiles/fibres , collage, sculpture. As many mediums I can possibly get my hands on I will explore. Whether it be through the college, work shops outside, or through my own personal ventures.
Proposed ResearchAttainment of a broader knowledge of Artists, in Contemporary Arts will help me to hone in on my influences and explorations.
Expressionism and Surrealism are of main interest to me, Art works that breath life into the souls of their viewers or tell a deep meaningful story, or just plain baffle the mind is what makes me tick.
As Painting is my top choice of interest, I will be looking at anything from the old masters right up to modern day styles and movements. Art History, Modern Art History, 19th century Art, Composition, and how these rules can still apply to present day Art. Looking at Art over history and present day, to better understand how it has been a crucial part of humanity and always will be.
Being able to see how many things our present day society have stemmed from the movements over time will be of great benefit for me and what my ambitions are.
Right now I am very limited to what I can do, due to my location and facilities, so I am going to have to find other places that can facilitate my needs. Having previously studied at West Lothian College I am confident that they may let me use their studio space. Also there are some evening class’s such as Life Drawing that I can attend for extra tuition in that area. My Landlord have garages for let which I am going to investigate and hopefully get up and running for my own personal studio space.
I live not to far away from Howden Park centre, which is the central hub for the arts in West Lothian. There they have various workshops, exhibitions I can get involved with.
I have also submitted an application to the West Lothian Arts Association which will be handy for getting to know other artists around me.
Being involved within the Arts in my Local area will benefit me greatly as it opens up a lot of doorways towards future opportunities, giving chances to gain knowledge and experience of whose out there and what’s going on in my in my neighbourhood.
It is very important for any artist to attain a network of contacts, places for practice and venues for exhibition.
Gallery visit will be the core of my research, If I want to learn of Art history, movements and painting. I am not to far away from Edinburgh and an Hour away from Glasgow. These are things I must not take for Granted if I want to progress in my choice of studies.

A Long Look in the Mirror (Self Portraiture)
To me on a personal level this is a form of self acceptance, being able to look in the mirror long enough to capture my self in true detail. I felt very happy after completing this A4 graphite face study.
Even though I dont look it in the picture I am pleased with the outcome, having never being able to achieve a proper face study of myself before. I know that my drawing skills are not the best in the world, I have managed to draw an okay likeness to my face. I guess the more I practice and play about with this the better I'll get with it.
This Side profile of myself was done from a photograph, I have not yet managed a side profile from the mirror yet but will get there in the end.
Straight away I can see the diference between using a photo from using a life pose, my drawing looks flater. This was a face study is A3 in Chalks and Charcoal on a momochromatic style, which I quite like the affect of. This drawing later inspired me to develope other ideas also, which I will show further down.
This Study was a quick one I done in A3 with my new pro markers which I still need to get to grips with. They are a versatile medium to work with which can be used many surfaces including acrylics, which I'm definetly interested in exploring as soon as. Anyhoo for this study I have drawn it using the thick side of the pen to block in the shadows and then I have the finer side of a darker pen to scribble in the details. It has given it a kind of anime affect, which I like and will later go back an develope on. This Drawing inspire me to attempt a larger version which you can see below.
This is a snippet of my A2 scale Drawing in chalk pastel, I used the mirror inconjunction with the drawing above. I feel I have alot to learn regarding build up the form of the face using various flesh tones. After looking at the works of Lucian Freud, I am greatly inspired to make it one of my missions in life to hone the skills of figurative and portraiture.....
I am also still exploring in depth with how many mediums work and how they mix. This is the most I have played with chalks on a figurative level.
I descovered a few tricks up my sleeve into getting to grips on how I can apply them, blend them and also apply layers ontop without mixing the lower layers in.
An important tip to anyone is to make sure you have plenty fixative (hairspray) and a hair dryer at hand.
The Image above is a development from my side profile drawing.
I like the idea of looking at the negative space and creating something from it eventually. I created a stensil from my origional drawing and have played about with it.
By repeating the stencil over itself repeatedly I have created a different, idea of my portrait. Looking at the layers of myself from within possibley. This idea can become so many other ideas also. I am yet to explore.
I have tried out the same idea, this time with colours, each colour represents one of the seven energy centres within the human body, for example the Charkras.
I feel that it is essential for every person to become familiar with these aspects within their energy fields.
After turning the image on its side it becomes something entirely different to a face. It can be percieved in many ways depending on its viewer. It could be the sea of ascention or the hills to enlightenment. Or just a funny shaped rainbow to others, who know what idea's this may inspire, we are yet to find out.
